Introduction
Dekyiling Tibetan settlement is situated at Sahastradhara road in Dehra Dun District of Uttranchal state. It was started mainly for the rehabilitation of the 2nd batch of Tibetan refugees from Bhutan and unsettled Tibetans in the district of Dehra Dun. This settlement was established in 1981 with initial population of 720 settlers on a total land allotment of 30.66 acres. The land allocation is meant for housing only. for the employment of settlers, a handicraft was started where they manufacture Tibetan carpets, colourful Tibetan women's apron, shoulder bag and Tibetan jacket materials.
Settlement Location
Dekyling Tibetan settlement is located at 12 km away from the Dehradun city of Uttranchal state. The settlement is at a height of 2100 ft. above from sea level. The average temperature of the place is about min 5 and Max. 38 Degree Celsius and average annual rainfall of 15-20 Cms per year.

Settler's livelihood
The main source of livelihood of the settler's were settlement's handicrafts center where they manufacture Tibetan carpets, colourful Tibetan women's apron, shoulder bag and Tibetan jacket materials. Besides that they engage in small seasonal petty business.

Administrative setup
Representative
The settlement officer who is appointed by the Central Tibetan
Administration, Dharamsala is the over all incharge of the settlement in
all spheres ranging from maintaining law and order to development and
poverty alleviation works. He acts as a link between CTA, state and
central government agencies and any other concerns. Under him, each camp
has an elected camp leader who is assisted by group leaders. All
development works are implemented through the camp leaders. Settlement
officer takes all major decisions in consultation with the camp leaders
and is the most important link between the settlement office and the
community.
