A brief story of Tezu Dhargyeling:
Introduction:
Tezu Dargeyling Tibetan Settlement was established in 1964 to rehabilitated 1240 Tibetan refugees on the total area of 1500 acres of land.
Settlement location:
This settlement falls under the sub-division of Tezu, which is also headquarter of Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh in India, fairly close to the International border of Indo-Burmese. The main town Tezu is at a distance of 5 Km from the settlement.
The altitude of the area is about 450ft. above sea level with an average temperature of 108° Fahrenheit in summer time. The average rainfall at the area is around 133 inches. The local inhabitants of the areas are mainly Mizo tribes.

This settlement consists of 5 villages or camps with average of 45 families in each camp.
Settler's livelihood:
Most of the Tibetan families have small piece of agricultural land for their living. Due to lack of irrigation facilities, the rain fed crop agriculture is practiced, which is not sufficient to sustain the families on farming alone. Besides agricultural, the settlers are engaged in trading, restaurants, shop keeping, and seasonal woollen business etc.

Administrative setup:
Representative:
Each settlement has a settlement officer who is the Representative of
the Department of Home,Central Tibetan Administration(CTA), Dharamsala.
Settlement officer is the principle post of the settlement and he is
incharge with overall control of running of affairs in the settlement.
Representative acts as the liaison between the settlement and the Department of Home (CTA) and it is the main source of information on CTA's policy for the settlers. Daily task for the Representative ranges from adjudicating disputes to communicating with local Assembly,outside authorities, and generally watching over the running of all aspects of the settlement.
Local Assembly: The structure and functioning or activities of every settlement are similarly to each others. There are 5 villages in this settlement and each of these villages possess an elected local Assembly and they represents the settlers. The local Assemblies are not elected for their policy-making idea,nor do they campaign on certain issue. These group leaders are chosen on the basis of their strength of personality and once ability to stand before the interest of their settlement. They hold session twice in year and can question the settlement officer during the session. The term of the Assemly is for five year.
