14 November, 2001:

A three-day grand celebration is planned at the conclusion of the 50th anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's Assumption of State Responsibility. The festivities will take place in Dharamsala from 20th November to 22nd November 2001. This also marks the conclusion of 60th anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's enthronement.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama will grace the occasion and His Excellency Shri Suraj Bhan, the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, will be the chief guest.

The first day's festivities will begin at 7 AM at Tsuglag Khang, the Main Temple, with long-life prayer offering to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The prayer will be led by His Holiness Sakya Trizin, head of the Sakya order of Tibetan Buddhism, on behalf of the Tibetan people both within and outside Tibet.

Dances and songs by Tibetans from India and abroad will follow this.

The second day of festivities will be celebrated at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), where TIPA artists will perform Lhamo, or Tibetan folk Opera.

The third day's celebration is planned to be held at the Tibetan Children's Village (TCV), Upper Dharamsala, where TCV students will join in the festivities.

As a mark of respect, all the Tibetan offices in Dharamsala will remain closed for three days during the celebrations.
