International human rights day observed in Meerut

Monday, 11 December 2006, 4:30 p.m.

Meerut: Antarashtrya Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Samiti (ABTSS) headed by K. B. Bakshi, who is also the National Co-Convener of the Core Group for Tibetan Cause, on 10 December organised a ceremony at the city's Raghunath Girls' Post Graduate College to honour the students who topped the Tibet related essay, quiz and painting competition held earlier this year.

Around 300 people, comprising of the school's principals, teachers, prizewinner students, Tibetan sweater sellers and local eminent persons, attended the function.

Dr N. K. Trikha, National Convener of Core Group for Tibetan Cause, was the chief guest and Choekyong Wangchuk, member of the Tibetan Parliament, chaired the function. Other eminent speakers include Dr. D.K. Pal, Co-Convener of Western Uttar Pradesh, Dr S.P.Rastogi and Dr Savita Nag.

The function commenced with a welcome song by the students followed by Tibetan and Indian National Anthems.

Shri Bakshi briefed the people about activities carried out by the ABTSS in this year, which include screening documentary films dubbed in Hindi-- Compassion in Exile and Cry of Snow Lion-- to 33 institutions in the city.

Mr Choekyong expressed his gratitude towards Indian friends for their support for the Tibetan cause.

Dr Trikha spoke on the human rights violations in Tibet.

The function concluded with the distribution of certificates and trophies to the winners of the aforesaid competition.
