First Inter School Tibetan Dialectics Held in Mussoorie

Dharamshala: The first ever inter-school Tibetan dialectics competition was held on 28 and 29 October at the Tibetan Homes' Foundation (THF), Mussoorie.

This competition was organised by the THF, as a part of the 70th birthday celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. About 15 Tibetan schools from across India participated in it. The competition was categorized into grade VII and VIII students with two students from each category.

Venerable Gyatso, Abbot of the Sakya College in Rajpur, was the chief guest of the occasion. The programme began with singing of the Tibetan and Indian anthems, lighting of the butter lamp by the chief guest and offering of sweet rice and butter tea to the portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Ngawang Phelgyal, general secretary of the THF, gave the welcome address and spoke on the aims and objectives of organising the event followed by a speech from the chief guest, who highlighted the Tibetan dialectics, its origin and its relation to Tibetan Buddhism in a simple language.

Thupten Lungrik, Kalon of the Education and Health Departments of the Central Tibetan Administration, was the chief guest at the closing ceremony.

Sera Jey Secondary School, Bylakuppe, bagged the 1st position in the grade VII category and 2^nd position in the grade VIII category, Tibetan Children's Village, Suja, bagged the 1st position in grade VIII category and 2^nd position in grade VII category, while the host school came third in both categories.

Appreciating the initiative of THF for organizing such an event, Kalon Thupten Lungrik said that he was stunned to see the outstanding performance of the students in this field.

The closing ceremony was marked with colorful presentation of the Tibetan cultural dances and songs performed by the children of THF. A final farewell dinner was hosted in the school auditorium with the Kalon, Education Officer, other dignitaries and the participating schools.
